Horace and Morris Say Cheese
(which makes Dolores sneeze!)
By James Howe
Dear Heathcote Family,
Here we are at our final Book of the Month for this year. During the past months, we have shared many exciting books. We learned: the importance of everyone’s contribution, how yoga can help calm us, and how we have much to share with each other. We had penguin fun and shared interesting math facts. We know what boys do for summer fun and read information on the interesting life of the great artist Diego Rivera. Last month we learned that you can collect anything, even words. This final book brings us awareness of a very serious subject that affects many of our friends and family members.
May is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. Asthma and allergies can be life threatening for some people. This story by James Howe is about our friend Dolores, a mouse, that loves cheese but can no longer eat it because she is now allergic to it. Dolores and her mom work on other choices for her. Her friends even lend a hand. Dolores discovers that "there is more to life than just cheese." She finds substitutes for her favorite food that taste just as yummy. Dolores is happy, safe and healthy!
Here's to good health, Heathcote!!!
Fondly,
Maria R. Stile
