Drawing and Painting 1 is an elective that meets four days a week for one semester. The course focuses on various drawing and painting techniques and materials. We use charcoal, acrylic paint, pencil, marker, watercolor, oil pastels, chalk pastels, as well as other media. The class experiments with contour drawing, shading, volume, light, color theory, color mixing, crosshatching, realistic and abstract composition. Assignments pose problems using the elements and principles of art, technique, and material.  Every project is multi faceted and asks students to develop creative, imaginative, and personal visual responses.
We also look at various artists and discuss their work critically.  These artists often operate as a catalyst for our projects.
