    Mystery Reader Hall of Fame 2015-2016 
     
     
    September 2015
     
    Our first mystery reader this month was Caryn Steuerman. She read us a book called The Name Jar by  Yangsook Choi.  Students had many suggestions for changing their names. For the project, students made and decorated wooden door hanger with their name on it. A good time was had by all. 
     
    October 2015 
     
    Our first mystery reader for the month of October was Hillary Krane. She read us a book called Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.  For the activity, students completed an ABC order name activity sheet as well as a first name word search. A good time was had by all. 
     
    Our next mystery reader was Regina Altaras Lerner. She read us a book called Scary, Scary Halloween written by Eve Bunting, pictures by Jan Brett.  Students made Halloween frames and completed a Halloween word search. A good time was had by all. 
     
    November 2015
     
    Our first mystery reader for the month of November was Ayelet  Pollack. She read us The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Students made their own giving tree and wrote what they were thankful for on apples. A good time was had by all. 
     
    Our second mystery reader was Hadas Weisman Maor. She read us a book called Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano. Students made their own pine cone turkeys.  A good time was had by all. 
     
    December 2015
     
    Our first mystery reader for the month of December was Amber Amicucci. She read us a book called Heart Of A Snowman by Mary Kuryla & Eugene Yelchin. Students decorated and designed their own ornament.  A good time was had by all. 
     
    Our second mystery reader for the month was Michele Feinstein. She read us a book called Learning About The Life Cycle of Owls by Ruth Thomson. For the project we made our very own owls. A good time was had by all. 
     
     
    January 2016
     
    We welcomed Mary Rapaport as our first mystery reader of the new year. She read us a book called Muddy Paws' New Friends by Steve Smallman and Simon Mendez. Students created felt puppet animal friends as a project. A good time was had by all. 
     
    Our second mystery reader was Stephen Feldgoise. He read us a book called Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin! By Lloyd Moss, Illustrated by Marjorie Priceman.  Students were given booklets to write and illustrate what they visualized and how they felt when they heard a piece of music Mr. Feldgoise played from his itunes. A good time was had by all.  
     
     
    February 2016
     
    We welcomed Dalia Lenskis-Kristian this month. She read us a book called Edward The Emu by Sheena Knowles, illustrated by Rod Clement.  Students made their own animal puppets and we play a few rounds of Bingo. A good time was had by all.  
     
    Our next mystery reader was Liz DeRobertis. She read us a book called The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers. Each student received a special box to decorate as a keepsake for those broke, lonely crayons. A good time was had by all.  
     
    March 2016
     
    We welcomed Rachel Grodzinsky as our mystery reader. She read us a book called The Hungry Thing by Jan Slepian and Ann Seidler.  Students were given a mystery food to draw and describe with a partner. They can to come up with a silly word that rhymed with the real word for the mystery item. Once students guessed the correct mystery food they were able to "feed" the "hungry thing".  A good time was had by all. 
     
    We welcomed Caroline Nussbaum to end our month. She read us a book called Oh The Things My Mom Will Do, Because She Loves Me Through and Through by Marianne Richmond.  Moms sure do so much for us. As a project we made pretty flowers as part of our upcoming Mother's Day celebration. 
     
    April 2016
     
    We welcomed Marin Weinberg this month. She read us a book called Eliza's Cherry Tree, Japan's Gift To America by Andrea Zimmerman. Mrs. Weinberg shared a little piece of her heritage growing up in Maryland as QR celebrated heritage week.  Student created their own cherry trees. A good time was had by all. 
     
     
    May 2016
     
    We welcomed Jen Levine as our first May mystery reader. She read us a book called How Full Is Your Bucket by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer.  Students decorated buckets and filled their buckets with compliments for one another. A good time was had by all. 
     
    We welcomed Ali Starr as our second May mystery reader. She read us a book called How Big Is A Foot written and illustrated by Rolf Myller. In partnerships, students measured various objects around the classroom. Then each student traced and decorated their foot on paper. We played a guessing game to see who the "foot" belonged to. A good time was had by all. 
     
    Our last mystery reader for the month was Andy Steuerman. He read us two books. He read Curious George Goes To The Beach and Curious George At The Baseball Game by Margaret & A.H. Reys.  Students decorated their own baseball caps as an activity. A good time was had by all.
