    My Papa Diego and Me

by Guadalupe Rivera Marin & Diego Rivera

     My papa Diego

    Dear Teachers and Students,

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the March Book of the Month.

Diego Rivera was born in Mexico in 1886.  His parents were teachers.  They noticed that Diego was a very talented artist when he was just a young child.  One day Diego's father decided to put large chalkboards on the walls of Diego's bedroom.  That was the beginning of his life as an artist!

Diego's oldest daughter, Guadalupe, wrote My Papa Diego and Me.  She is very proud of her father's artistic contribution to Mexico and the world.  Her book is a memoir of the time she spent with her Dad.  With each memory she shares one of his works of art.

After reading My Papa Diego and Me, I hope you will think about special, wonderful memories you have with your parents, grandparents, and friends.  Maybe you can create your own book of memoirs.

Enjoy learning new information about Diego Rivera through Guadalupe's childhood memories.  Try reading some of the Spanish portions and…please let me know which of his paintings is your favorite!
