A Couple of Boys Have a Summer Adventure
by Marla Frazee
Dear Heathcote Family,
From the moment I saw the cover of this book, I was taken in – two boys waving happily at the reader, seemingly ready for adventure. But then, I looked more carefully. Two boys, waving happily at the reader… with speech bubbles that sent me rolling with laughter. After all, I can picture my own boys saying the same things: “How long do we have to stand here and smile? Only for this picture and then we can go back to being normal.”
A Couple of Boys Have a Summer Adventure, by Marla Frazee, is a fun story of two boys, James and Eamon, who go for a one week nature camp vacation to Eamon’s grandparents’ house. This book celebrates kids' friendships, the freedom of summer, and all the great things that go with it. Filled with clever pictures, speech and thought bubbles, the reader experiences small moments on almost every page.
And we certainly could use thoughts of summer in the midst of snow, snow, snow, and shoveling.
Apparently, the author chose to write this book to thank friends of her son, who had taken him on vacation. This is quite a thank you card. Don’t forget to take a look at the inside flaps and inside covers.
Enjoy and laugh with your class and families.
