• Dear Parents,

Welcome to second grade at Quaker Ridge School!  I am so excited to be teaching your child this year. Each day last year brought opportunities for wonder, curiosity and discovery.  As your child continues the journey in second grade, I look forward to building upon the great work that was done in first grade and dive deeper into developing a love of learning, social skills and academic skills.

    A Few Important Things:

    First Day of School:

**The first day of school will be an exciting time for all of us! The school doors will open at 8:35 a.m. where your children can walk directly to our classroom. I will be at the classroom door to greet each child. School faculty will be greeting our bus riders as they exit the buses and walk down the halls.  It's normal for some students to feel apprehensive and nervous to come in, but please know that even if there are a few tears they quickly dissipate as soon as the day really starts. In the days leading up to the start of school, you can prepare your child by having conversations.  Ask them what are they looking forward to learning, talk about your positive school experiences, etc....

    Snack:

** Starting on the first day of school, we will have a daily snack in the morning.  Please remember to send your child to school with a healthy snack each day.  Please keep in mind that their morning snack should be nut free.  You can refer to the PTA’s approved list of treats as well as additional information regarding what having a nut-free classroom really means.

    Supplies:

** If you ordered supplies through the school, the PTA representatives have delivered them directly to our classroom.

    Specials:

**We will post our specials schedule as soon as we receive it.

**Art Smock: Our specials will begin the first day of school. Please send in an art smock with your child’s name on it. Over-sized t-shirts or an old button-up shirt work well.

If there is anything that I haven’t answered, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our SchoolWires page is continuously updated and will hopefully provide answers to most of your questions.
