5-L Students Develop Experiments with Effervescent Launchers

Students in 5-L spent the first eight weeks of school learning how to design an experiment based upon the scientific method. Focus was on  the scientific method as way of obtaining knowledge by observing and collecting data.  The process began by forming a question and developing a hypothesis.  Then the experiment was conducted and a conclusion was reached.  New questions that arose led to new experiments.

Chemistry, the study of the structure of matter and the changes or transformations that take place within those structures, was the second science unit of study for fifth grade students. Learning about the properties and behaviors of substances gave students knowledge about how things go together and how they can be taken apart. Learning about changes in substances led to the development of new materials and new ways to produce energy.
